the Bible:

We are excited to introduce a new program! A Released Time program is one in which—with parental approval—public schools release students for a part of the school day to attend off-site religious instruction offered by a private sponsoring group. It recognizes and reinforces the constitutionally protected right of parents to direct the religious education of their children.

About Us:

Release Bible Time is a brand-new program for our community! It is a state-authorized program taking place in schools across Indiana and several other states. Under Indiana Code § 20-33-2-19 (passed in 2024), students may be released from school for religious instruction with parental permission. 

 

On July 31, 2025, the program was reviewed and approved by New Castle Schools. We have worked with Superintendents and Principals to make sure everything is handled appropriately!

what to expect:

We’re excited to offer this special opportunity for students to grow, learn, and have fun together!

Participation is completely voluntary—just like an elective class—and does require parental permission. Parents can sign their children up quickly and easily through our Google Form.

Bible Release Time happens during a non-core period on Thursdays. Our church bus will pick up students at 2:40 and bring them to Grace Baptist Church, where they’ll enjoy a fun, encouraging time learning more about the Bible. Pick-up will be at the church at 3:30.

who can join?

If you’re a 4th or 5th grader at Westwood Elementary or Wilbur Wright Elementary, Bible Release Time is for you! Come join us for engaging lessons, fun activities, and a chance to learn more about God’s love. Our goal is to encourage young hearts, strengthen faith, and help kids build a lasting foundation in God’s truth.

legal requirements:

Federal court decisions have provided three main conditions that public schools must follow regarding what schools are allowed to do when accommodating and working with Released Time programs, and also what schools cannot do:

1.

Student attendance must be voluntary, with written parental permission

2.

Instruction must take place off school grounds

3.

No state resources - taxpayer funds - may be expended
